As an Entrepreneur, Efficiency Expert, Author and Business Maverick, Al Kiremli has worn many hats during his career. In the last decade alone he has created the world’s first Iraqi food franchise, a unique gaming brand, and undertaken or invested in myriad projects. Thanks to his perseverance, his innate belief that every day brings with it the opportunity to learn something new, and his ability to adapt and navigate any obstacles he encounters, he has made each of his “hats” fit. If you were to ask Ahmed Al Kiremli why he’s as successful as he is today, he’d tell you it’s because he’s failed in the past, and learned from those failures.

An endless seeker of knowledge, Al Kiremli holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix, AZ. Supplementing his acquired knowledge and experience through books, seminars and the mentorship of experts, he has managed to continue incorporating his love for learning into his everyday life. In his career, he has used this thirst for knowledge, both the acquiring and sharing of it, to straddle the line between corporate strategist and entrepreneur.

He has tackled such varied challenges as implementing strategic change within decades old companies to establishing and franchising his own Iraqi fast/casual dining brand (IRAQI TOUCH); the first Iraqi food franchise in the world. Along the way, he created an inventive gaming brand (Games Corner) leveraging “dead space” within malls and subsequently franchised the concept, provided tactical leadership to leading regional brands and used his in-depth knowledge of internet marketing to optimally position his brands. He continues to explore new concepts, either his own or unique investment opportunities, daily, and stays true to his overriding passion: to learn all he can, and share that knowledge with others.

Alongside this drive, Al Kiremli has kept striving to find the ideal balance between work and life, developing innovative methods of managing his ever increasing workload in ways that allow him to combine his love for life, and his love for work.  He has streamlined his operations through a combination of outsourcing and productive delegation among other methodologies, freeing up time to allow him to continue developing new concepts, and identifying new opportunities.

A firm believer in the principle that says the right mindset, a willingness to learn, persistence, and a belief in the dreams that drive us combined with the will to take action are the main keys to success means that Al Kiremli has developed a sixth sense which has led him to seizing opportunities others may discard. It’s by taking these educated risks that he’s succeeded, and today, he has taken his myriad talents and varied experience and combined what he has learn into the premise for his new book; one that deals with the ever important topic of transitioning from employee to efficient entrepreneur.

If you ask Al Kiremli what tomorrow will bring, he’ll tell you he doesn’t know; all he’s sure of is that whatever it is he’ll learn from it, grow, succeed and ensure it endures as part of his legacy. After all, for an entrepreneur who managed to find the time to acquire new skills, seek out and embrace new opportunities while maintaining balance in his life through creative management, all while becoming a professional squash player: anything’s possible.

What Ahmed Al Kiremli says about himself?

When working with someone, I believe it is important for you to know a little bit about that someone. If you are not already familiar with me, my name is Ahmed Al Kiremli. As an entrepreneur, I have started several of my own businesses. I am also an investor as well as an efficiency expert to individuals and companies. In that capacity, I am also frequently called upon to provide mentorships to CEOs and other individuals.

One of the questions that I am frequently asked is what exactly is it that I do. My specialty lies in seeking out new, innovative and more efficient ways to improve business processes as well as everyday life habits. This is an area in which I am intimately familiar. I know whereof I speak. By implementing such efficiency methods and business processes in my own life and career, I have been fortunate enough to experience a high degree of success, including establishing a variety of brands, such as the first Iraqi franchise restaurant in the world (IRAQI TOUCH). Other business enterprises that I have founded include the world’s best movie ratings app (Best Movie Ratings), a kids’ playground concept (Climb and Slide), and a unique video gaming brand (Games Corner).

Needless to say, I have worn many hats during the course of my career and I am continually seeking out and exploring new endeavors on an international and local basis. At the same time, I also continue to look for new and innovative ways in which I can become more efficient.

It is precisely those techniques that I teach to clients in my efficiency consultancy business. You see, I believe that we all have dreams, goals, and desires. We all want to do more. The differentiating factor that results in some people being able to accomplish those goals while others only dream about them is that some people are able to overcome obstacles and work more efficiently while others are not. I strongly believe that every day brings with it the opportunity to learn something new. I have certainly faced many challenges in my own life, yet I continued to persevere, and adapt to any challenges that came way. At some point, we have all failed in the past. I have had my own share of failures, yet I learned something from each of those failures.

Many people call themselves lifelong learners. I think of myself as an endless seeker of knowledge. Along with holding an MBA from the University of Phoenix, I continue to supplement my knowledge and experience with seminars, books (an average of 2 books per week), and expert mentors. Today, I deploy that same thirst for knowledge as a way to not only enhance my own education but also to share it.

As an efficiency consultant, I teach others how to find the time necessary to acquire new skills, how to not only seek out but embrace each day’s new opportunities, and maintain a healthy balance in life through creative management. I not only believe that anything is possible; I can show you how to achieve it.

Do-it-yourself, automate it: in 2004 I started my first business, the business was growing very well the first two years and the reason why is because I was there managing the business and taking care of it, afterwards I left the country and the business started failing day after day, the reason why, at that time I wasn’t qualified enough to make an automated system to manage the business while I was online. So from the other hand as I am coming originally from Iraq, a country of the mentality that if you want to do it right you need to do-it-yourself, I was always curious and searching for different ways and techniques for creating automation and to prove this role wrong, by creating an automated system. So automation versus efficiency: automation is a technique, a system of operating a process by highly automatic means to improve quality accuracy and save time and costs. The word automation came from the word automatic and they created it in the industrial age when they started replacing labor with machines. But I am referring to use automation to create a system that is going to work without you. Efficiency is less time effort and cost to achieve a certain outcome or task. So in conclusion automation equals more efficiency and to be more successful you need to be more efficient. So why I’m talking about efficiency in terms of learning and emails, however it looks like totally two different subjects, learning, everybody is learning but that is not the point, the point is how to be efficient in learning, how to learn fast and efficiently. And learning is the key for your success and transformation, personal transformation and if you want to transform the world around you, learning is the key. So you need to invest in your brain and you need to make sure and careful about what you are downloading into your brain. Your brain is the key for your success, not the money. Emails are the most important thing for communication with your team or with the world so, plus it is the most time-consuming thing that we are spending so much time on so we need to find ways to be efficient in it. So how to be 10 times more efficient in learning? It’s funny that today I am talking about learning because a few years back when I started learning heavily in reading books my father came to me and said Ahmed I’m really impressed that you are reading because a few years back I have never even seen you reading a story about Mickey Mouse, so never underestimate yourself in terms of what everyone, learning is key. So for questions you need to examine and answer to be 10 times more efficient in learning. The first question is, why we learn? This is a very critical question that you need to ask yourself before getting into any learning activity because the problem is that most of the people learn by default, they see their friends or their parents suggest for them something and they learn by default, and in 20 or 30 years they discover that they chose the wrong path for their learning. So if you want to be a doctor then you need to understand how a doctor’s life is going on, you need to hang out with doctors, you need to see when they are in their 20s or 30s or 40s what the challenges that they are facing are, when they are over 50, what is the fear that they are facing that they are self-employed, and they are thinking that they are going to lose the job or their skills, who is going to feed their families? You need to study all of that regardless of what you are going to study or learn before getting into that learning experience. So the people in general learn for money as an employee or an entrepreneur or investor and my advice to you if you are looking for money, being an employee is not the right path, you need to be an entrepreneur or investor. The second reason that people learn, they learn for personal or social gain, for passionate pleasure or to solve a problem or to add value or self-esteem. The second question is what to learn? In 1999 I made a terrible mistake that I have no other choice only to reveal to you here: I studied science biology and to this day for the subject I still hate the subject, I don’t remember anything about it and I don’t know why I did it because why that happened? When I got into it and I started learning I didn’t justify the why, why I am doing that, do I like it, do I have a passion about it, I’m thinking about money, is it the pleasure? So I learned nothing about it, it was a terrible experience so you need to be careful about choosing your path of learning. A decade later I have done an MBA which is a less terrible mistake, I learned a lot from it but the problem of it that again when I got into it I was in the employee mindset, to get an MBA and put it on your CV to improve your career and these things, while I was thinking to be an entrepreneur, if I would come back now, if I have the back to the future car and I go back, I would neither do my bachelor degree nor my MBA because there are so many different ways to be more efficient in learning and to improve your learning and achieve whatever you want, not necessarily you have to go to school or university. So the learning types, we have the academic who learns through school, you learn how to read and write and solve simple math and this is a must for everybody, the second type is learning is the professional learning and usually you learned through the university college or a job and this type of learning repairs you to be a more successful person at your work. The third type of learning is the financial learning which most of you are most of the people in the world do not have any idea about, that’s why when they finish the school or the University they get the shock of the real world and the problems of money because usually the school does not teach you about money or the university. So this type of education usually you learned by experience or through the real world through certain resources. The fourth type of education is the spiritual education or learning which you learned through certain beliefs or religion and this type of learning usually gives you balance to your life and gives you control over life. So regardless, whatever thing that you want to achieve after you answer the question of why, all of these types of learning are important but in different percentages. The first question is how to learn, people learn through schools, universities, blogs, books, online and off-line courses, seminars and webinars, mentors which is a great way of learning, and also they learn through experience, failure and success and believe me, failure is the biggest teacher in life, not success. When you succeed you don’t learn anything because you are comfortable, you are inside your comfort zone. The fourth and most important question is how to learn efficiently? To learn efficiently you need a mix between active learning which is learning by doing, by taking action, by experience. The second part you mix with the passive learning which is through reading or listening and the best way that I found, the most efficient way that I found in terms of passive learning is audiobooks. When I started reading books, normal books it was taking me for each book about six months to one year and it is a very boring process but after I discovered the audiobooks I started reading two books per week or listening to two books per week, for that I use a service called audible, it’s a company owned by Amazon it is very efficient because you can learn on demand like when you go to school or university usually you study for four years and then after that maybe you apply what you learn after 10 years, while when you use audiobooks you can listen two two books per week and if you have any problem like you want to learn about financial investment you just go directly and read about it, if you want to lose weight, learn about fitness you just go right away and learn about it in two days or one day, the average people drive from one to three hours a day and the average length of books is like five hours so imagine if you drive within two hours a day within two days you finish one book. Plus it is very cost efficient, each book costs you based on the plan that you are going to make with audible, each book is going to cost you from $9-$15 plus the mobility, you can listen to it via iTunes on your computer or there is an app for it, you can listen to it on your smart phone and you can burn it on CDs through iTunes and listen to it in the car. Plus if you have a sound system you can connect with the app also you can just link the app with the sound system in the car and listen to it. So this is the most efficient way of learning. The second part is how to be 10 times more efficient in emails? When I started doing my businesses and automating my businesses I have like 90% of my businesses off-line and 10% online, I started managing all my teams wirelessly from home with my software home, and usually not there when I managing. So I’m comfortable, I have the lifestyle of answering emails from wherever I want but the problem is that I was getting around hundred to 200 emails a day and I was taking between 6 to 10 hours to answer which is a full-time job so I kept digging and researching and trying to come up with a system to solve this problem, however comparing with so many other employees, or like people who go to jobs, I am in a better position as I can still work from a café or answer emails from the self or from the beach but still it was draining my brain, taking all the time and the system that I came up with, this is the steps of making the system: the first step is to hire a virtual assistant. To hire a virtual assistant you can use a website called and usually you hire the virtual assistant, you make a contract for hours that you pay the virtual assistant for our, now I have a different number of virtual assistants each one for different tasks but for the emails you hire a virtual assistant specifically for emails and usually it costs like $5-$10 an hour, my current virtual assistant charges me around five dollars an hour and costs me around $100-$150 a month which is nothing, it is saving the most of my time. What this virtual assistant is going to do is she reads the emails, she has access to your emails, to your inbox and she reads the emails via voice and send it to you. The second step is after she reads emails, the virtual assistant after she reads the emails she is going to send it to you via WhatsApp which is an SMS free application for messaging, available on most of the devices like smart phones so she records the message and sends it to you in this way like you see email number one from John, she sends that is a text so you can see what is the number of the email and then she records the voice message after that and I answer in the same way, number one is the email and then you record the voice message that applies. So she goes through the hard work of the formalities in regards and dear and these things take time when you type your emails and she does that instead of you so by that you hack the process and you save time. There are some emails in the snapshot that you can see like email from Tony and then she records the voice messages which she reads the email for you and then when you answer you put number two in the F, the F stands for forward the big question is forward to where? The third step, you need to create a secret email address that nobody knows about, neither your family know your friends, only your virtual assistant so she is going to forward these emails that you need to review, usually they are like financial statements or like partnership contracts or certain private emails from new context that you need to answer yourself so she forwards this email, to the secret email address so when you go to that inbox instead of you going to your main inbox and being distracted by other emails you go to just this email and instead of seeing 100 to 200 emails you see 10 or five, plus the other advantage of this is it is spam free because nobody knows about this email so you will not receive any spam from it. The fourth step is how to send emails efficiently? Some emails you are going to receive into the secret email address but still not necessarily have to type when you answer these emails, you can also use an app called Say it, Mail it, this is a free app on smart phones, this is a snapshot from the iPhone, you can see a Mike here so when you click on the mic it will start recording as in the second snapshot and you record your apply for the email which is faster than typing. The next click that you click on on the mic will leave the voice message that you recorded directly into the email so you just click send and that said, instead of spending like 5 to 10 minutes per email you spend seconds. So this is how to be 10 times more efficient in terms of learning, by using the audible service and the active learning combined and using the email answering system by using virtual assistants and the WhatsApp app, thank you very much.
